clearly the singer is against religion. but the lines "all i wanted was to be one of your children, all i wanted was to be one of yours" makes it sound like he regrets it, like he wishes he could believe, but he cant for some reason. its like he and god are fighting, "are we even now? are we even now?" 
for all the bad stuff he says about religion "wash off your handcuffs," "you tricked your mind to feel," he still wants to be one of them.
